In the early 1900's Jefferson county broke out with Tuberculosis. Local residents also called it "The White Plague" seeing as most of the county was infected. After more and more people were dying, the city of Louisville decided to build a hospital. They named it Waverly Hills Sanatorium. It had opened in 1910 and was happily ready to start helping patients. Now, the hospital, excuse me, Sanatorium, was on a GIGANTIC hill, and all of the employees had to climb up it everyday. So, they decided to put in a tunnel at the bottom that lead to the top so they could get supplies up easier and the employees didn't have to climb up EVERY single day.
